Papers relating to the Development of a Full Pressure Suit by P Frankenstein & Sons

A report on the recent improvements in performance of the Full Pressure suit, with particular reference to the positive improvement of adding a separate compensating unit to control air pressure, on the existing helmet.

A Preliminary Report on a Series of Investigations into the Compensating problems on the Full Pressure Suit

A manuscript copy of a report on the design problems of pressurised clothing including drawings and photographs of the Capstan Partial Pressure Suit and photographs of airmen in other pressurised suits, waistcoats and helmets. In pencil on the opening page it is annotated as being a paper for the Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Journal of the British Interplanetary Society

A volume of notes taken by Ian B. Wright during an Aviation Medicine Course divided into the following topics: American Oxygen Equipment, Flying Clothing, The Physiological Limitations Governing Oxygen Equipment Design, The Medical Aspects of Parachuting, Survival on Land, Environmental Requirements in Pressurised Aircraft, Physiological Effects of Accelerations of Short Duration, Physiological Problems of Air and Structure Borne Vibrations on Air and Ground Crews, The Physiological Effects of Cold, Water Deprivation during Sea Survival, Oxygen Equipment, Medical Aspects of Navigation, Airsickness, Decompression Sickness, Emergency Escape in Flight, Day Vision, Clo Value: Its Determination and Application to Problems of Clothing Design, Principles of Clothing in Warm Environments, Medical Fitness for Air Travel, Physical Variables in the Atmosphere, Physiological and Psychological Aspects of Fatigue, Accelerations of Long Duration, High Speed Flight, Noxious Substances, and Casualty Air Evacuation.

Summaries of Lectures given during Aviation Medicine Course

Instructions of the purpose, operation and servicing of pressure breathing equipment for aircrew with an illustrative drawing. A few notes have been made on the reverse regarding development of the waistcoat element, presumably by Wright.

Pressure Breathing Equipment Instructions for Aircrew

A notebook, presumably written by Ian B Wright, containing handwritten notes from January to November 1957 on the testing of air ventilation systems and electrical heating in full pressure suits with illustrative handdrawn graphs and diagrams of the design and test results.

Testing and Design Papers

A paper on the theoretical and practical approaches to ensuring mobility within pressure suits, with particular reference to arm movement including illustrative black and white photographs and graphs.

Applications of a System of Functional Anthropometry in Pressure Suit Design

A paper on the concept of an operational Full Pressure Suit from a design and manufacturing perspective with a brief history of the pressurised suit, criticisms of current designs and a look to future development with a particular emphasis on expanding the purpose of the suit for Space Flight.

A Mission Full Pressure Suit

A report on investigative work carried out on the electrical heating problems with the Full Pressure Suit between May and September 1957 with illustrative graphs and drawings.

Report on the Investigation & Development of an Integral Electrical Heating System for the Full Pressure Suit

A report on tests to evaluate the suitability of the Full Pressure Suit extremity heating system combined with the ventilating air heating supplied by Vulcan and Victor B. Mark II aircraft for the maintenance of aircrew in ambient to -40c conditions with an illustrative graph.

Report on Third Series of Cold Chamber Tests on a Full Pressure Suit Heating System

1 volume

Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, Vol. 17 No. 12

A bundle of notes primarily regarding the regulation of oxygen during flight, including a paper on the 'Functioning of Oxygen System on Pressure Suits with Modified German Demand Regulators' with sketch diagram of design, ground testing notes of RAF Pressure suit equipment, a paper titled 'Factors affecting man when Cabin Pressure is lost at Extreme Altitudes' by Wing Commander H.L. Roxburgh concerning the physiological effects of a lack of oxygen, notes on the environmental requirements in pressurised aircraft, notes on ejecting and parachuting from high altitude, notes on the physiological effects of rapid acceleration, and notes on the selection of flying clothing.

Oxygen Systems Notes

A paper proposing initial designs for a compact independent regulatory system to intergrate human crew in a variety of high altitude vehicles with the intention to carry the same principles over to eventual British orbital space travel. Within the proposal, schematics are discussed for pressurisation, oxygen, ventilation and temperature regulation as well as suit and helmet design and assembly.
